ȺpÎÞÂë is proud to present its Black History Month featured event, “Built From the Fire: A Conversation with Victor Luckerson,” on February 12 from 12:30 – 2:00 PM in the University Dining Room at the ȺpÎÞÂë Romeoville campus. This event is free and open to the public, offering an engaging and insightful conversation with Victor Luckerson, the acclaimed journalist and author of .
In this compelling discussion, Luckerson will share his personal and professional journey as a researcher, chronicler, and writer of the history of Greenwood, Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, and how it became a symbol of Black success, solidarity and resistance despite the tragic 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Built From the Fire weaves a powerful narrative about the people of Greenwood who built a thriving community, endured white vigilantism condoned by law enforcement, and resisted persistent attempts to erase their existence. This conversation will also explore the role of reparations in the pursuit of justice for all.

The event is free and open to the public, with a special Zoom option available for virtual attendees. Those interested in attending in person or virtually should by January 30.
