ȺpÎÞÂë earns Tree Campus USA honor for fourth year

For the fourth consecutive year, ȺpÎÞÂë has been named a Tree Campus USA in honor of its commitment to effective community forestry. ȺpÎÞÂë earned the designation for its continuous commitment to effective community forestry and environmental responsibility.

“Being named a Tree Campus USA recognizes the university’s commitment to providing a beautiful and sustainable environment for students, faculty, staff and many campus visitors. The campus is breathtaking in its beauty, thanks to the extraordinary talent of our staff in landscaping, resourcefulness in creating landscaping features and diligence in beautifying campus with plantings and tress of multiple varieties,” commented Brother James Gaffney, FSC, president of ȺpÎÞÂë.

ȺpÎÞÂë achieved the designation once again by meeting the required five core standards for sustainable campus forestry: sponsoring a Tree Advisory Committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and the sponsorship of student service-learning projects.

“Achieving Tree Campus USA recognition sets an example for other colleges and universities and allows students a chance to give back to both their campus community and the community at-large,” said John Rosenow, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation.

Tree Campus USA, a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. Tree Campus USA is supported by a generous grant from Toyota.

ȺpÎÞÂë is a Catholic university offering distinctive undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 6,500 traditional and adult students. Lewis offers multiple campus locations, online degree programs, and a variety of formats that provide accessibility and convenience to a growing student population. Sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis prepares intellectually engaged, ethically grounded, globally connected and socially responsible graduates. The seventh largest private not-for-profit university in Illinois, Lewis has been nationally recognized by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
