Ambulance Services

Should University staff determine the need for an emergency transfer to the hospital for medical reasons, the Romeoville Police/Fire departments will be called. Responding emergency medical personnel will assess the situation and, if appropriate, transfer the student to a local hospital. In these cases, students are financially responsible for all costs related to the ambulance and off-campus care. Staff does not transport students off campus. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange transportation to an off-campus care facility in non-emergency situations.

FINDING A HEALTH CARE PROVIDER

  • Be familiar with your insurance coverage before you need to seek medical care.
Keep your health insurance card/information with you at all times.

  • Know how to find an in-network provider before you need one.
Use the “find a provider” search option on your insurance plan’s website or call the customer service phone number printed on your insurance card. Here are tips and resources to find a health care provider.

  • If you do not have a primary care doctor, it is important to establish with one.
Primary care doctors are a “home base” for medical care and should be the first contact for new health concerns and follow-up care when needed.

  • Even young adults and healthy individuals should be established with a primary care doctor.
Out-of-state students living on or near campus during the school year should establish care with a local primary care doctor.

  • For non-emergent visits, check with your insurance plan before choosing a location to make sure it is “in-network.”
Out-of-network providers are typically covered at a lower amount and may be more costly.
